What are haemorrhoids?
Haemorrhoids commonly known as piles is a condition where the veins around the rectum and anus are swollen.
Symptoms of haemorrhoids:
Many times, piles may remain unnoticed and do not cause any pain or symptoms. But sometimes symptoms may present as -

Discharge of blood while passing stool.

Itching in and around rectum

Pain and burning during defecation which remains even after passage of stool.

Swollen mass protruding from the anus.
Classification of haemorrhoids:
Haemorrhoids have been classified into four grades depending upon size, location and degree of prolapse.

Grade I – there are no symptoms and piles do not protrude out from anus.

Grade II – piles protrude out the anus but goes back on their own.

Grade III – piles protrude out of anus, go inside when pushed by fingers manually.

Grade IV - piles protrude outside and cannot be pushed back inside.
Causes of haemorrhoids:
Haemorrhoids occur due to dilatation of veins in the rectal and anal region, because of which haemorrhoids develop.

Obesity

Low intake of fibre in diet, which leads to formation of hard stools and excessive straining.
